“Two lists?” asked Lewis with a laugh, apparently poking fun at his spot on the list of all-time regular-season games coached without a post-season win.
But don’t laugh. Lewis has been savvy and good when it comes to getting his team out of the gate. He’s won road openers by a rout in the division (in Cleveland in 2005), a fourth-quarter comeback in the division (in Baltimore in 2014), won with a rookie quarterback (in Cleveland in 2011) and on the west coast (in Oakland last year).
Bengals all-time passing leader Ken Anderson is at it again as he huddles up his teammates and leads them into an evening of reminiscing at the Boathouse on Sept. 25 immediately following the 1 p.m. Bengals-Broncos games at Paul Brown Stadium.
“A Night with Bengals Legends,” benefits the Ken Anderson Foundation’s effort to support adults with autism and features a star-studded roster beginning with Hall-of-Famer Anthony Munoz and cheap jerseys and long-time Bengals radio analyst and Anderson road roommate Dave Lapham.
In his 13 openers, Lewis had two left tackles start 12 of them with Andrew Whitworth holding down the fort in seven of them and Levi Jones in five. When Whitworth missed his only two games since 2009 with a knee problem, Anthony Collins started the 2013 opener in Chicago.

Lewis has had a few more Opening Day right tackles. Ogbuehi, the No. 1 pick in 2015, becomes his sixth. But only Willie Anderson (5) and Andre Smith (5) have started more than one. Ogbuehi is the latest in a line of first-round right tackles, starting with Anderson in 1996 and Smith in 2009. Anderson started every opener he was under Lewis before Stacy Andrews, Collins, and Dennis Roland each started the next three.
Nine years ago, on the same day, the day after the cut to 53 players, the Bengals traded for the man they oppose this Sunday in New York (1 p.m.-Cincinnati’s Channel 12), Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. They ended up giving the Rams a 2008 seventh-rounder to find Carson Palmer’s backup for 2007 and 2008.
They’ve already got a backup in the talented, playoff-tested AJ McCarron, their best No. 2 since Fitzpatrick. But not for long. If they’re going to trade McCarron, they have to replace him first and the process has officially begun with Driskel, a 6-4, 230-pound specimen who they scouted before the 49ers took him in the sixth round.

Special teams coach Darrin Simmons said after the walkthrough there is hope that Peerman can return at some point during the season. It appears to be a simple fracture with no ligament damage, but he will need surgery. It’s still up in the air if Peerman can make it back, but Simmons is crossing his fingers.
The move with Tate, 28 means the Bengals punt and kick return games undergo a major overhaul since he had been the primary returner for both after the Bengals picked him up on waivers in 2011 from the Patriots five days before the opener.
Depending on the severity of his fracture, Peerman is also a candidate for IR-return, or if they think it’s a six-week injury they could carry him on the 53. But they have decide if Jackson, a cornerback, can get back quicker than the other injured players, which is probably why they’re waiting as long as possible to make the moves.
Among the players cut was DiManche, the only undrafted free agent to make the Bengals roster in 2013. He was second on the team with 12 special teams tackles and blocked a punt. The next season he played in 12 games before suffering a forearm fractur. Then he bounced to Kansas City and Cleveland in 2015 before landing in Cincinnati at the end of the season.
